The OSU-OKC Farmers Market

Spring/Summer/Fall hours:
8:00-1:00 start April 4, 2009

At the OSU-OKC Horticulture Pavilion
400 N. Portland Ave. in Oklahoma City

Spring is back and so is the OSU/OKC Farmers’ Market traditional market hours of 8:00AM to 1:00PM.  We’ll keep these hours through the end of October before returning to Winter Market hours of 10:00 to 1:00.

We're one of only two Oklahoma farmers' markets (used to be the only one!) that continue throughout the whole year. It’s surprising to still have new people keep showing up at market; after ten years you would think everyone would know…but we’re still growing.

Come on down and check out all the great seasonal produce, plus the cheese and yogurt, fresh buffalo and grass fed lamb, handcrafted baskets and soaps, and everything else that makes the market a great weekly event. Come see us at the market. Thanks. http://www.osuokc.edu/farmersmarket/

Thursday Afternoon Market in OKC

There’s a big change this year(2009) for the mid-week OSU-OKC Farmers’ Market in Oklahoma City. For the last three years we were in downtown Oklahoma City at noontime on Wednesday. It was good while it lasted, but it was time for a move.

Welcome to Thursday Farmer’s Market from 3:00pm until 7:00pm at 63rd and Western in NW Oklahoma City. It’s in a parking lot just west of the intersection, directly south across 63rd Street from Mamasita’s restaurant. This market is generously sponsored by Chesapeake Energy(which also owns the parking lot). There are permanent tents anchored to the pavement, there’s plenty of parking for all and it’s got great access and view from heavily trafficked streets.

The first Thursday was May 7. It will be open again on May 14, but closed on May 21 due to some Chesapeake event. The next Thursday, May 28, is the official opening day with appropriate activities and advertising. Mid-week market has always been a shadow of the Saturday market. However, this one looks to be different. There’s big hope for this market. Come on down and check it out. Together we’ll see how it goes.

Here's a few photos from previous years at the OKC Downtown Market, click on the thumbnail for a larger view (photo opens in a new window)

5th Annual Lavender Valley Acres Festival
Saturday, June 6, 2009
5 miles west of Apache, Oklahoma

It may be a small lavender show in the middle of the wheat fields, but you sure wouldn’t know it. I guess this little festival doesn’t realize it shouldn’t be so popular being in southwest Oklahoma near Lawton. But hey, come out and be surprised…again! Last year some people made a nice day of it coming down from OKC. Music and food, vendors and plants--lavender, naturally. Lavender in Oklahoma...not as surprising as you might think. http://www.lavendervalleyacres.com

2009 Paseo Arts Festival
Memorial Day Weekend, May 23, 24, 25
Between NW 30th and Dewey and N.W. 28th and Walker
in the Paseo Arts District of NW Oklahoma City

We have people tell us that they like the Paseo Festival better than the big April Arts show downtown. I’ve heard it said that it has a friendlier more common-man sort of atmosphere. Well, whatever the reason, it’s a huge crowd pleaser. Come on down for the art-fine or otherwise, dance to the music, admire the jewelry, and just have a great time. We’ll be located down at the south end of the street where we were last year. You have three days, three chances to enjoy the Festival. Don’t miss it. http://www.thepaseo.com/events/paseofestival.html

a

The show is on the northeast corner of the intersection in the parking lot of the former Albertson’s, just a few parking spaces from Whole Foods…a definite plus. It’s the first herb show of the season in the Tulsa area. Last year’s show weather was a return to winter, but not this time! Come on out and get a head start on your herb garden.

30th annual Arts Festival Oklahoma!
Friday, August 29 through Labor Day, September 1, 2008
Oklahoma City Community College, I-240 & South May

This year marks the 30th annual Arts Festival Oklahoma.  It looks to be bigger & better than ever.  Last year was the first year in the new location, but it worked out great. More bands & entertainers this time--there's performers like Edgar Cruz, the Byron Berline Band and of course the OKC Philharmonic on Saturday night.  It's a long weekend, but one of the best shows we see and do each year.  Check out the extensive festival website for all the info... http://www.occc.edu/afo/index.html

Seminole Made in Oklahoma Festival
Saturday, September 6, 9:00 to 4:00
Main Street, Seminole

This is Seminole's first Made in OK festival.  Like the organizers say, it's intent is not to generate big profits, but to have a great time for the community and for visitors.  Our good friend Marilyn Stewart with Wild Things Nursery is one of the chairmen for the day, so we gladly jumped at the chance to help out her event.  We're really looking forward to a fun day with friends and music, wine-tasting and food.  Come on to Seminole, it'll be worth the drive. http://www.shawneesun.com/articles/2008/08/07/news/23ssc%20made%20in%20oklahoma.txt

31st Annual Midsummer Nights Fair
Friday & Saturday, July 11/12, 6:00PM to 11:00PM
Firehouse Art Center/Lions Park, Norman Oklahoma

Lions Park is a former baseball field with only the lights left. So after the sun gets behind the tall western pines, the crowds start to come out; by 8:00 pm it's a full house. A hot July day is bearable after sunset. It's an unusual show with all kinds of interesting art. A great way to spend a summer evening.

4th Annual Lavender Valley Acres Festival
Saturday, June 14, 2008
5 miles west of Apache, Oklahoma

We were pleasantly surprised last year at how many people came out to this little lavender show. Apache is close to Lawton, but not everyone was from there. We had some people make a nice day of it coming down from OKC. Music and food, vendors and plants--lavender, naturally. Lavender in Oklahoma...not as surprising as you might think.

Saturday, May 17, Noon until 7:30 PM
Southeast of Bristow, West of Okmulgee

A fine little wine party back in the woods of eastern Oklahoma. You'll need the map off the website, but it's worth the drive. A great place to hang out for an afternoon, taste the wines, have some lunch, enjoy the company and the music. Don't be in a hurry, come on out and sit a spell. http://www.nuyakacreek.com/winefest.htm

Friday/Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, 11:00 until 5 p.m.

Andrews Park, Norman, Oklahoma, just north of the Post Office

A great place to spend a weekend afternoon. The trees are cooling, the food is great, the entertainment is entertaining--what else!--and the wares are wonderful. Come by and see both usual and different arts from over eighty different vendors from all over the country.

Even if you did see the downtown Arts Festival in OKC the week before, this is a different venue...perhaps more down to earth, more everyday-people/family friendly. Come on by and say hi.

19th Annual Herbal Affair & Festival
Saturday, April 19, 2008 / 9 am to 4 pm
Downtown Triangle, 2nd and Main
Sand Springs, Oklahoma

Okay everybody, this is the big one. If you only go to one herb show all year—or every ten years!—this is the one. Don’t let the 9:00AM opening time fool you. It’s an outdoor show, customers show up at 7:00 or earlier pulling wagons or pushing strollers to get the plants and bargains they know they’ll find. I don’t know why it’s always been so huge and successful, it just always has. Vendors show up from at least seven different states, it’s the largest herb show in this part of the country. We wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Fri. 3 pm to 8 pm / Sat. 9 am to 8 pm / Sun. 10 am to 6 pm
Oklahoma State Fairgrounds - 10th and N. May Avenue

This is the 4th annual Wellness show this group has held. We did the first one and now I think we’ll give ‘em another shot. Unfortunately, we’ll miss Brookside in Tulsa, but after all, this is closer. There’s a lot of interesting items to see and do, we think the turnout should be good. Come by and check it out.

Herb Day in Brookside
Saturday, April 14, 2007

Our apologies to the hard working manager, Pat Kroblin, our fellow vendors/friends and most importantly to our customers for not being at Brookside as we had advertised and planned.  Mother Nature's cold and wet reception was enough to make us reconsider driving up from Choctaw.  It was very depressing for us here that Saturday morning, so we made up for it by going over to Paseo and signing up for their Memorial Day Show.  We haven't done that one before.  Nonetheless, we are looking forward to a great day at Sand Springs.  See you there.
